Softball Game Preview: Minarets Mustangs vs. Chavez Titans

The Minarets Mustangs will challenge the Chavez Titans at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Both teams are coming into the matchup red-hot, with Minarets sitting on four straight victories and Chavez on three.

Minarets is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They came out on top against Mendota by a score of 9-5.

Addison Lafferty spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and three unearned) runs on five hits and racked up 11 Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Kristina Nichols was incredible, going 1-for-4 with one home run and four RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2025. Another player making a difference was Zaphara Byron-Hamilton, who went 3-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Chavez). They were the clear victors by a 21-13 margin over Immanuel Christian on Friday. Considering the Titans have won nine contests by more than six runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

The team relied heavily on Zoe Chavez, who got on base in all six of her plate appearances with one home run, four stolen bases, and seven RBI. SUSIE MARTINEZ was another key player, getting on base in four of her six plate appearances with four stolen bases and four runs.

Chavez kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in three consecutive games.

Chavez's win bumped their record up to 11-19. As for Minarets, their victory bumped their record up to 16-9.
