Basketball Recap: Wheat Ridge Takes a Loss

Wheat Ridge fought the good fight in their overtime contest against Standley Lake on Wednesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 72-61 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Standley Lake Gators. The loss continues a trend for the Farmers in their matchups with the Gators: they've now lost three in a row.

Carson Dowis had an outrageously good game for Standley Lake as he went 10 of 13 en route to 23 points along with seven boards and six assists. The dominant performance gave Dowis a new career-high in points. Asher Serlen was another key player, dropping a double-double on 16 points and ten rebounds.

Wheat Ridge now has a losing record at 6-7. As for Standley Lake, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 9-4.

Wheat Ridge will look to defend their home court on Friday against Pomona at 7:00 p.m. Wheat Ridge knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past four matchups -- so hopefully Pomona likes a good challenge. As for Standley Lake, they will face off against Green Mountain at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Green Mountain is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 58.9 points per game this season.
