Baseball Recap: Surry Central Victorious

It was a Battle of the Birds when Surry Central challenged Wilkes Central on Tuesday. The Surry Central Golden Eagles came out on top against the Wilkes Central Eagles by a score of 12-8. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Golden Eagles considering their two-run performance the contest before.

Jackson Wilmoth made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out seven over four innings pitched. What's more, he gave up only three walks, the fewest he's had since back in April of 2024. He was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing Three bases. while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. He also put up a double, which was his first of the season.

In other batting news, Eric Branch was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing Four bases. while going 3-for-4. Those four stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Ty Lloyd also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.

Surry Central kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits every time they've taken the field this season.

Surry Central's record now sits at 5-1. As for Wilkes Central, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-4.
