Football Game Preview: Valley View Spartans vs. Edgewood Cougars

The Valley View Spartans will head out to square off against the Edgewood Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Valley View will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak.

Valley View had to skate by with only a one-point margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 47-point drubbing they dealt Madison on Friday. The Spartans blew past the Mohawks, posting a 47-0 win. Considering the Spartans have won three games by more than 20 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Brodie Hopkins continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 91 yards and two touchdowns on only six carries. Gavin Phillips made the highlight reel by snagging an interception and taking it all the way to the house.

Valley View didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Phillips, Brody Welfare, and Anthony Valenti picked up one apiece. Phillips got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Edgewood, who bounced back after a loss on the road two weeks ago. They snuck past Ross with a 20-14 victory on Friday.

Valley View's record now sits at 6-1. As for Edgewood, their record is now 3-4.

Valley View didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against Edgewood in their previous meeting back in October of 2024, but they still walked away with a 24-20 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Spartans since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
