Preview: Parkwood Wolf Pack vs. Weddington Warriors
The Parkwood Wolf Pack will be playing at home against the Weddington Warriors at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Parkwood will be strutting in after a win while Weddington will be coming in after a defeat.
The third road game was the charm for Parkwood, as they earned their first road win of the season. They had just enough and edged Indian Land out 55-52. Winning is a bit easier when you nail five more threes than your opponent, as Parkwood did.
It was another big night for Peyton Collins, who dropped a double-double on 25 points and 11 rebounds. The match was her fifth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Kayl Starnes, who scored 11 points along with 7 assists and 5 rebounds.
Meanwhile, Weddington suffered a tough 63-37 defeat at the hands of Independence on Friday. While losing is never fun, Weddington can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 161st, while Independence is ranked seventh).
Despite the defeat, Weddington saw an underclassman step up: Caroline Clark scored 16 points. Clark scored a full 43.2% of Weddington's points, the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Parkwood's victory lifted them to 2-3 while Indian Land's loss dropped them down to 1-5.
Tuesday's contest is shaping up to be a scrappy game: Parkwood haven't given up the ball easily this season, having only averaged 0 turnovers per game. It's a different story for Weddington, though, as they've been averaging 20.3 per game. Given Parkwood's sizeable advantage in that area, Weddington will need to find a way to close that gap. Parkwood was taken down by Weddington 74-34 when the teams last played two weeks ago. Will Parkwood have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more basketball content.
