Joey Dorsey was a major factor no matter where he played. He tossed five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. What's more, he posted five strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one run and one double.
In other batting news, Blake Custer was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with four RBI, two runs, and one double. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Ian Kelley was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
North Hagerstown always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .581. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, after only one run in their last game, Smithsburg made sure to put some runs up on the board against Clear Spring on Wednesday. The Leopards blew past the Blazers 12-2. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Leopards as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.
Eli Bowman was a standout: he got on base in three of his four plate appearances with four stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Isaiah Burger, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs.
North Hagerstown has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-3 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.3 runs over those games. As for Smithsburg, their victory bumped their record up to 9-7.
North Hagerstown took their win against Smithsburg when the teams last played back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 11-5 score. Will the Hubs repeat their success, or do the Leopards have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
