Baseball Game Preview: Marshall Lions vs. South Vermillion Wildcats

The Marshall Lions will venture away from home to take on the South Vermillion Wildcats at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Marshall is coming into the game hot, having won their last four games.

Marshall came out on top against Paris on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive seven-run sixth inning. The Lions had just enough and edged out the Tigers 7-6. That's two games straight that the Lions have won by just one run.

Payton McGuire was excellent, going 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. That home run was his first of the season.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for South Vermillion, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Monday. They came out on top against Fountain Central by a score of 4-0 on Tuesday. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

The team relied heavily on Dallas Coleman, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, one stolen base, and two RBI. Trever Anderson was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

The victory got South Vermillion back to even at 3-3. As for Marshall, their win bumped their record up to 6-2.

South Vermillion's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Marshall has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .451. It's a different story for South Vermillion, though, as they've only averaged .363. Will they be able to contain Marshall's hitters?

Marshall took their victory against South Vermillion in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 13-6 score. Will the Lions repeat their success, or do the Wildcats have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
