Softball Recap: Esperanza Aztecs vs. Aliso Niguel Wolverines

If Esperanza was riding high fresh off their 8-0 takedown of Villa Park two weeks ago, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Esperanza Aztecs fell 6-2 to the Aliso Niguel Wolverines on Monday. The Aztecs were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Wolverines apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in March of 2021.

Julia Ireland was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one home run. That home run was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Madison Page, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one double and one RBI.

Even though they lost, Esperanza hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Aliso Niguel struck out seven times.

As for Aliso Niguel, they will venture away from home to take on Poway at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Poway's pitching crew has only allowed 1.8 runs per game this season, so Aliso Niguel's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
