Football Game Preview: Jones Trojans vs. La Vernia Bears

The Jones Trojans will head out to face off against the La Vernia Bears at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Jones has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the game with four straight losses, while La Vernia will come in with five straight victories.

Jones is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They took a 41-36 hit to the loss column at the hands of Calhoun on Friday. While the Trojans had to settle for second, they closed the game well in the third quarter, where they outscored the Sandcrabs 18-0.

Jones might have lost, but man, Tyler Lang was a machine: he threw for 254 yards and four TDs.

Meanwhile, La Vernia posted their closest win since November 29, 2024 on Friday. They had just enough and edged out Bay City 25-22.

Jones better focus on containing COOPER NULL and TY CARTER as the pair were huge in La Vernia's win. NULL rushed for 112 yards and a pair of scores, while CARTER rushed for 107 yards and one touchdown. NULL is also crushing it when it comes to rushing touchdowns: he's punched in at least two every time he's taken the field this season.

Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something La Vernia proved: they limited Bay City to a paltry 2.7 yards per carry. The team can thank REMMINGTON ROHDE for the heroic effort on defense: he. La Vernia's ground attack was stronger, having averaged 4.8.

La Vernia's victory bumped their record up to 6-1. As for Jones, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-6.

Jones took a serious blow against La Vernia when the teams last played back in October of 2024, falling 49-14. That matchup was all but decided by halftime, at which point the Trojans were down 35-6.
