Gary Rankin of Alcoa, Jim Roth of Southern Columbia Area add to their title totals.

Gary Rankin of Alcoa (Tenn.) and Jim Roth of Southern Columbia Area (Catwissa, Pa.) both won state football championships this year, adding to their advantage as the leader in state titles in their respective states.

Rankin won his 16th overall state championship and sixth in a row at Alcoa with a 35-0 win over Milan. Meanwhile, Roth led Southern Columbia Area to a 42-14 win over Wilmington Area for his fourth straight championship and 11th overall. The Tigers also won their 59th game in a row, the second-longest active streak in the nation.

Rankin and Roth highlight MaxPreps' list of the coaches with the most high school football state championships in each state. The list includes coaches who may have mythical state championships among their state title count. Sources for the list include state association websites and research via newspapers.com.
