Baseball Recap: Las Cruces Extends Home Winning Streak to Five

Las Cruces had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 4 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Thursday. Everything went their way against the Hobbs Eagles as they made off with a 14-5 win. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory the Bulldawgs have posted against the Eagles since April 1, 2022.

Joaquin Pfeiffer made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.

In other batting news, Nick Rojas was incredible, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Danny Amaro, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two RBI.

Las Cruces kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive contests.

Las Cruces pushed their record up to 9-2 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.6 runs over those games. As for Hobbs, they have been struggling recently as they've lost nine of their last 11 matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-12 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Las Cruces will face off against Mayfield at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Mayfield will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something Las Cruces surely won't give up without a fight. As for Hobbs, they will square off against Artesia at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
