Softball Recap: Huntington Sets Scoring Season-High Against Capital

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Huntington). They blew past the Capital Cougars 12-6 on Wednesday. The Highlanders haven't had any issues with the Cougars recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive win against them.

Layla Crickard made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up four earned (and two unearned) runs off eight hits. Those eight strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Lilly Robinson, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. Trinity Leftwich also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.

Huntington hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Capital struck out eight times.

Huntington's victory bumped their record up to 4-19. As for Capital, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost 14 of their last 15 games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-21 record this season.

Huntington will look to defend their home field on Thursday against Wahama at 6:00 p.m. The White Falcons' pitching crew has only allowed 3.6 runs per game this season, so the Highlanders' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Capital, they are taking a road trip to take on Ripley at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
