Soccer Game Preview: Stilwell vs. Sallisaw

The Stilwell Indians will square off against the Sallisaw Black Diamonds at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Stilwell has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the contest with three straight defeats, while Sallisaw will come in with 14 straight victories.

Stilwell is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to five goals on Tuesday, they were much more limited against Wagoner on Friday. They fell just short of the Bulldogs by a score of 2-1. That's two games in a row now that Stilwell have lost by just one goal.

Meanwhile, Sallisaw made easy work of McLain Science & Tech on Friday and carried off a 7-3 win. The result was nothing new for Sallisaw, who have now won nine games by three goals or more so far this season.

Their offense was hitting McLain Science & Tech from everywhere, as five different players booted in a goal. Wesley Rodriguez led that balanced group of strikers and accounted for two goals all by himself.

Sallisaw pushed their record up to 14-0 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 24 goals over those five matchups. As for Stilwell, their loss dropped their record down to 1-7.

Stilwell came out on top in a nail-biter against Sallisaw in their previous matchup back in April of 2023, sneaking past 2-1. Will the Indians repeat their success, or do the Black Diamonds have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
