Softball Game Preview: Mount Miguel Matadors vs. La Jolla Vikings

The Mount Miguel Matadors will head out to take on the La Jolla Vikings at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

Mount Miguel is headed into Monday's game looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their 12th straight game dating back to last season on Saturday. They came up short against Orange Glen, falling 12-2.

Mount Miguel saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was A Sinsay, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base.

Meanwhile, La Jolla lost 25-19 to Bonsall on Friday. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Saturday (12), the Vikings still had to take the loss.

Savannah Putnam was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring four runs and stealing three bases while getting on base in five of her seven plate appearances. Those three stolen bases gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Madeleine Ehlert, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in five of her seven plate appearances.

Even though they lost, La Jolla kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive contests.

Mount Miguel's loss dropped their record down to 0-2. As for La Jolla, they dropped their record down to 2-9 with the defeat, which was their 18th straight at home dating back to last season.

Mount Miguel took their win against La Jolla in their previous matchup back in March of 2024 by a conclusive 17-2. The rematch might be a little tougher for Mount Miguel since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
