Basketball Recap: Loveland Takes a Loss

On Tuesday, the Loveland Red Wolves ended up a good deal behind the Windsor Wizards and lost 61-44.

Despite the loss, Loveland still got an impressive performance from Zayne Desouza, who almost dropped a double-double on 17 points and nine boards. Desouza is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last five games he's played. Another player making a difference was Mason Morris, who posted 11 points and seven boards.

Even though they lost, Loveland smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in ten consecutive matches.

Madden Smiley was his usual excellent self, going 8 for 11 en route to 25 points and three steals for Windsor. That makes it three consecutive games in which Smiley has scored at least a third of Windsor's points. The team also got some help courtesy of John Backhaus, who almost dropped a double-double on 17 points and nine rebounds.

Loveland's loss dropped their record down to 12-4. As for Windsor, their victory was their 16th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 13-4.

Loveland didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 66-55 defeat against Fossil Ridge on the 31st. As for Windsor, they will head out on the road to face off against Greeley West at 7:30 p.m. on February 4th. One thing working in Windsor's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last eight contests.
