Baseball Game Preview: Chatham Cavaliers vs. Halifax County Comets

The Chatham Cavaliers are taking a road trip to face off against the Halifax County Comets at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Chatham has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the matchup with four straight defeats, while Halifax County will come in with three straight wins.

Chatham couldn't beat Gretna on Wednesday even though they stacked nine runs on them in the third inning. The Cavaliers came up short against the Hawks, falling 22-12.

Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Halifax County ultimately got the result they hoped for on Thursday. They came out on top against Bassett by a score of 7-3.

CJ Farley tossed a big game, striking out six batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Halifax County's victory was truly a team effort as six different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Jay Farmer, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base. That stolen base marked the first that Farmer has snagged this season. Another was Eli Seamster, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI.

Halifax County now has a winning record of 8-7. As for Chatham, their loss dropped their record down to 1-8.

Chatham couldn't quite finish off Halifax County when the teams last played back in April of 2024 and fell 3-1. Can the Cavaliers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
