Basketball Recap: Monticello Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Ali Weidner and Megan Allen

After flying high against Charleston last Monday, Monticello came back down to earth. The matchup between the Monticello Sages and the Mt. Pulaski Hilltoppers didn't end well, with the Monticello Sages falling 47-31. While losing is never fun, the Sages can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 423rd, while the Hilltoppers are ranked 174th).

Despite the loss, Monticello had strong showings from Megan Allen, who posted eight points in addition to eight rebounds and three steals, and Ali Weidner, who put up nine points and three steals. Weidner is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed three or more in the last three games she's played.

Monticello's defeat dropped their record down to 2-2. As for Mt. Pulaski, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 5-1.

Monticello wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 56-32 loss against Sullivan on the 10th. As for Mt. Pulaski, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 63-30 win against Midwest Central/Delavan on the 9th.
