Softball Recap: Six Straight Home Victories for Jay

There's no place like home for Jay, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Thursday. They came out on top against the West Florida Jaguars by a score of 6-2 on Tuesday. This was payback for the Royals, who suffered a 2-1 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Layna Lowry spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on four hits and racked up nine Ks. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 5.3 strikeouts per game.

On the hitting side, Carleigh Baker was excellent, scoring a run while going 2-for-3. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in doubles (two). Another player making a difference was Kylei Martinez, who scored two runs while going 1-for-1.

Jay pushed their record up to 15-1 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for West Florida, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 9-8.

Coming up, Jay will head out on the road to take on Gulf Breeze at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. As for West Florida, they will be playing at home against Northview at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Chiefs' pitching crew has only allowed 3.1 runs per game this season, so the Jaguars' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
