Preview: Grant Community Bulldogs vs. Wauconda Bulldogs
Grant Community is 2-8 against Wauconda since October of 2014 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Saturday. The Grant Community Bulldogs will head out on the road to face off against the Wauconda Bulldogs at 5:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Grant Community fell on hard times earlier this season, but after back-to-back victories it seems like their luck might finally be changing. They claimed a resounding 46-6 victory over North Chicago at home. Grant Community pushed the score to 43-6 by the end of the third, a deficit North Chicago had no chance of recovering from.
Grant Community found their leader in underclassman Matthew Gipson, who threw for 159 yards and four touchdowns. Max Hembrey also deserves a shout-out for his two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Wauconda got the win against Grayslake North on Friday by a conclusive 32-7. The victory was familiar territory for Wauconda who now have three in a row.
Wauconda can attribute much of their success to Connor Vanselow, who rushed for 121 yards and three touchdowns. Vanselow is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last four games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Logan Olsen, who rushed for 30 yards and a touchdown.
Their wins bumped Grant Community to 6-3 and Wauconda to 7-2.
Grant Community couldn't quite finish off Wauconda in their previous meeting back in September and fell 27-24. Can Grant Community avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
