Basketball Game Preview: White Mountain Wolves vs. Shaktoolik Wolverines

White Mountain is 0-6 against Shaktoolik since January of 2016 but things could change on Friday. The White Mountain Wolves just played yesterday, but they'll still head out to face the Shaktoolik Wolverines at 7:00 p.m. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as White Mountain comes in on five and Shaktoolik on 13.

In Thursday's Canine Competition, White Mountain came out on top. They took their matchup against Hogarth Kingeekuk Sr. Memorial on Thursday 61-53.

White Mountain's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kyri Adams, who went 6-for-12 to rack up 17 points and four steals. Adams is crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Lillian Lausten-Katongan was another key player, putting up 15 points and five rebounds.

Meanwhile, you're bound to get a positive result if you outscore your opponent every quarter and that's exactly how it played out for Shaktoolik on Thursday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that they blew Shishmaref out of the water with a 75-41 final score. The Wolverines have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won eight games by 30 points or more this season.

Shaktoolik's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-2. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 69.7 points over those games. As for White Mountain, their victory bumped their record up to 11-2.

White Mountain came up short against Shaktoolik when the teams last played back in January, falling 64-58. Can White Mountain avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
