Baseball Recap: Duval Charter Takes a Loss

Duval Charter dropped down to 11-8 on Monday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins. They came up short against the Hilliard Red Flashes, falling 9-3. If the Panthers were looking for revenge after losing 12-2 to the Red Flashes when the teams met back in April of 2023, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Duval Charter saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Austin Wellbrock, who went 2-for-3 with one run.

As for Hilliard, they pushed their record up to 8-13 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.4 runs over those games.

On Hilliard's side, David Hern looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Hern has become a key player for the Red Flashes: the team is 2-1 when he allows at most three hits, but 6-12 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Hilliard let Kolt King and Ethan Garland run wild. King went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI, while Garland went 1-for-2 with three stolen bases and two runs. Those two runs gave King a new career-high. RJ Jackson was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Looking ahead, Duval Charter is taking a road trip to face off against Cornerstone Classical Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Hilliard, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Eagle's View at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
