Softball Recap: Richland Center Comes Up Short

Richland Center and Prairie du Chien pushed the score to 18-4 the last time they played Prairie du Chien, but on Thursday defenses reigned supreme. The Hornets fell just short of the Blackhawks by a score of 2-1. The defeat continues a trend for the Hornets in their meetings with the Blackhawks: they've now lost nine in a row.

Kyree Fischer spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on three hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Richland Center saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Carley Mieden, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base. Maddie McGlynn also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Richland Center's loss dropped their record down to 2-4. As for Prairie du Chien, their record now sits at 8-2.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Richland Center will challenge Dodgeville at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Prairie du Chien, they will square off against Fennimore at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
