Basketball Game Preview: Lamar Vikings vs. South Grand Prairie Warriors

Lamar hasn't had much luck against South Grand Prairie recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Lamar Vikings are taking a road trip to take on the South Grand Prairie Warriors at 2:30 p.m. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Lamar will bounce into Friday's contest after beating Haltom, who they had gone 0-3 against in their three prior meetings. In a tight match that could have gone either way, Lamar made off with a 40-39 win over Haltom.

Meanwhile, South Grand Prairie escaped with a win on Tuesday against Arlington by the margin of a single free throw, 47-46. Given the Warriors' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 71st, while the Colts are ranked 498th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

South Grand Prairie is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games, which provided a massive bump to their 12-10 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.2 points per game. As for Lamar, their record now sits at 7-14.

Lamar took a serious blow against South Grand Prairie when the teams last played back in February of 2024, falling 77-38. Can Lamar avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
