Baseball Game Preview: Wayne Badgers vs. Altamont Longhorns

The Wayne Badgers will face off against the Altamont Longhorns at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

Wayne saw some tournament action on Friday. They lost 19-2 to Panguitch. The Badgers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Wayne saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Hunter Robins, who went 2-for-3 with one run. Another was RJ Pauu, who got on base in two of his three plate appearances with one stolen base and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Altamont suffered their biggest defeat since August 24, 2024 on Friday. They came up short against Panguitch, falling 16-2. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the Longhorns' biggest loss of the season was also their lowest-scoring.

Wayne now has a losing record of 1-2. As for Altamont, their loss dropped their record down to 3-2.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Saturday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Wayne has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.3 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Altamont struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.

Wayne skirted past Altamont 6-4 when the teams last played back in October of 2023. Will the Badgers repeat their success, or do the Longhorns have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
