Baseball Recap: St. Xavier Extends Road Winning Streak to Nine

It may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but St. Xavier ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They came out on top against the Bullitt East Chargers by a score of 5-2. The win continues a trend for the Tigers in their matchups with the Chargers: they've now won six in a row.

Ryan Holmes looked comfortable as he pitched 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, St. Xavier's victory was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Jaxon Coomer, who went 1-for-5 with two runs and one stolen base. Coomer has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played. Danny Jaso also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

St. Xavier's win was their ninth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 20-4. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.3 runs over those games. As for Bullitt East, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 17-7-1.

Coming up, St. Xavier will look to defend their home field on Thursday against Ballard at 5:00 p.m. The Bruins will roll in looking for their 31st straight win, something the Tigers surely won't give up without a fight. As for Bullitt East, they will venture away from home to square off against Collins at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
