Softball Recap: Russell Find Success

The Russell Red Devils earned a 7-2 victory over the Chesapeake Panthers on Saturday.

Karson Hale made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. What's more, she posted three strikeouts, the most she's had since back in March. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one home run, two stolen bases, and two runs.

In other batting news, Bella Hall was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three stolen bases, and two runs. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season. Another player making a difference was Allison Highfield, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one double and one RBI.

Russell's win bumped their record up to 8-16. As for Chesapeake, they have been struggling recently as they've lost 11 of their last 12 games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-14 record this season.

Russell didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 14-3 loss against Lincoln County on the 2nd. As for Chesapeake, they will welcome Portsmouth at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. The Panthers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Trojans have averaged an impressive 7.7 runs per game this season.
