Baseball Recap: Greenbrier West Takes a Loss

Greenbrier West blew Midland Trail out of the water the last time the pair played, but on Wednesday Midland Trail got their revenge. The Cavaliers fell just short of the Patriots by a score of 9-7. Surprisingly, this marked the Cavaliers' fourth straight game in which the away team has come away the victor.

Greenbrier West saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Landen Doss, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI. Doss is becoming a predictor of the Cavaliers' success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 2-1 (and 4-12 when he doesn't). Another was Scott McClung, who went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

Greenbrier West has been struggling recently as they've lost 11 of their last 13 contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-13 record this season. As for Midland Trail, their victory ended a six-game drought on the road and puts them at 3-15.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Greenbrier West will head out to square off against Summers County at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Bobcats have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.81 runs per game on average), something the Cavaliers will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Midland Trail, they are taking a road trip to challenge James Monroe at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
