Softball Game Preview: River Ridge/Scales Mound Wildcats vs. Milledgeville Missiles

The River Ridge/Scales Mound Wildcats will venture away from home to challenge the Milledgeville Missiles at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

On Tuesday, River Ridge/Scales Mound came up short against East Dubuque and fell 4-1. The Wildcats have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Elizabeth Rife spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on six hits and racked up 12 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than nine strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances.

Meanwhile, Milledgeville entered their tilt with Polo on Tuesday with three consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with four. They put the hurt on the Marcos with a sharp 20-2 win. Considering the Missiles have won six contests by more than eight runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Milledgeville pushed their record up to 8-5 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 19.3 runs over those games. As for River Ridge/Scales Mound, they now have a losing record of 7-8.

River Ridge/Scales Mound took their victory against Milledgeville in their previous meeting back in May of 2022 by a conclusive 14-1 score. Will the Wildcats repeat their success, or do the Missiles have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
