Volleyball Game Preview: Carmel Greyhounds vs. Jeffersonville Red Devils

The Carmel Greyhounds will take on the Jeffersonville Red Devils at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Carmel is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Indiana's top teams: Franklin Community, who was ranked 11th at the time (Carmel was ranked sixth). Carmel came out on top against Franklin Community by a score of 3-1 on Wednesday. Surprisingly, this marked the fourth straight game that the away team has come away the victor.

The match finished with set scores of 26-24, 19-25, 25-17, 25-20.

Carmel's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Shepard Spidel, who had four digs and two aces, and Griffin Holdcraft, who had 13 digs and two assists. That's the most digs Holdcraft has posted since back in April of 2024.

Columbus East came into Thursday's game looking for another win against Jeffersonville, but Malachi Crowder wouldn't allow it. Jeffersonville narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Columbus East 3-2 with plenty of help from Crowder, who had 24 digs and two assists. He is on a roll when it comes to digs, as he's now had 11 or more in each of the last seven games he's played dating back to last season.

Jeffersonville had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first two sets, they turned around to win the next three. The final score came out to 19-25, 23-25, 25-16, 25-22, 15-5.

Jeffersonville now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Carmel, they now have a winning record of 3-2.
