Basketball Recap: Utopia Triumphs

Utopia came tearing into Friday's game with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 30.5 points) and they left with even more momentum. They came within a single point of losing the streak, but they secured a 51-50 W against the Comstock Panthers. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 62-51 back in January.

Utopia's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jett Smothers led the charge by putting up 15 points. Charlie Leman was another key player, scoring 11 points.

Despite the loss, Comstock saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Neal Billings went 9 for 15 on his way to 24 points and six boards. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Billings has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Creed Hardin, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and ten rebounds.

Utopia pushed their record up to 24-4 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.0 points over those games. As for Comstock, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 14-12.

Utopia has already played their next match, an 86-41 victory against Medina on the 4th. As for Comstock, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 54-51 win against Knippa on the 4th.
