Baseball Recap: Wilmington Takes a Loss

Sharpsville hit Wilmington with a five-run sixth inning on Thursday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Greyhounds took a 10-6 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Blue Devils. The Greyhounds were not able to make up for their loss to the Blue Devils from their previous meeting back in May of 2024.

Wilmington got a good showing from Jaron Lohrenz, who tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Those zero hits allowed gave Lohrenz a new career-low.

At the plate, Chase Mitcheltree made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, two doubles, and one run. Another player making a difference was Michael Mistretta, who went 3-for-4 with one run and one double.

This is the second loss in a row for Wilmington and nudges their season record down to 5-7. As for Sharpsville, their win ended a five-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-7.

Coming up, Wilmington will be playing at home against Kennedy Catholic at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Sharpsville, they will challenge Cambridge Springs at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Blue Devils are facing the Devils at the right time seeing as the Devils are stuck on a five-game losing streak.
