Texas high school football: West Oso running back Elijah Huff nearing 1,500 yards, tops state rushing yardage leaders

In the last two weeks alone, Huff has carried 77 times for 607 yards and eight touchdowns.

After a pair of monster performances over the past two weeks, Elijah Huff of West Oso (Corpus Christi) leads the state in rushing yardage according to statistics submitted to MaxPreps.

Huff ran for 296 yards and four touchdowns in a 63-49 loss to Lake Country Christian last weekend. For the year, the 5-foot-11 senior has run for 1,451 yards and 21 touchdowns on 158 carries. Twice he has gone over 300 yards, including a season-high 311-yard, four-touchdown performance in a 40-38 triumph over Bishop two weeks ago.

Dawson Pendergrass of Mineola isn't far behind with 1,369 yards and 15 scores. Last weekend, the 6-3, 205-pound back rambled for 240 yards and a pair of touchdowns on 25 carries. Pendergrass has gone over 200 yards four times this fall and ran for a season-high 311 yards and three touchdowns in a 44-43 win over Bullard on Sept. 16.

Murry Moore of Dunbar (Fort Worth) is in position to make a run to the top with 1,293 yards and 13 scores to sit No. 3 this week.
