Baseball Recap: Beachside Has No Trouble Against Matanzas

Beachside never let their opponents score on Tuesday. Everything went their way against the Matanzas Pirates as they made off with a 9-0 victory. That's more bragging rights for the Barracudas, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Alex Gwaltney looked comfortable as he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, he posted three strikeouts, the most he's had since back in February.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Gabe Gerhardt, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in February of 2024. Travis Jordan was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.

Beachside's win bumped their record up to 7-15. As for Matanzas, they dropped their record down to 1-21 with the defeat, which was their 13th straight at home.

The two teams are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. Beachside will challenge Englewood at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Matanzas, they will square off against Vanguard at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Knights' pitching crew has only allowed 3.6 runs per game this season, so the Pirates' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
