Basketball Game Preview: Southeast of Saline Trojans vs. Sacred Heart Knights

The Southeast of Saline Trojans will venture away from home to square off against the Sacred Heart Knights at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both will really light up the scoreboard.

Having struggled with six defeats in a row dating back to last season, Southeast of Saline turned things around against Republic County on Friday. They were the clear victor by a 69-43 margin over the Buffaloes. The Trojans' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Southeast of Saline relied on the efforts of Gannon Jacobson, who went 9 of 15 en route to 20 points along with six rebounds and three steals, and Owen Bailey, who went 7 of 14 on his way to 17 points. Jacobson's evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Isaiah Kejr, who posted nine points.

Southeast of Saline was working as a unit and finished the game with 19 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Sacred Heart greeted the New Year with with a 60-44 win over Minneapolis. Given the Knights' advantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 27th, while the Lions are ranked 199th), the result on Friday wasn't entirely unexpected.

Southeast of Saline's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-4. As for Sacred Heart, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-1-1.

Southeast of Saline came up short against Sacred Heart in their previous matchup back in January of 2024, falling 55-51. Can Southeast of Saline avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
