Basketball Recap: Evergreen Comes Up Short

If Evergreen was feeling good fresh off their 58-21 takedown of Wheat Ridge last Wednesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Evergreen Cougars were beaten by the Green Mountain Rams 79-27 on Saturday. While losing is never fun, the Cougars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 139th, while the Rams are ranked 19th).

When it comes to explaining why Evergreen lost, don't look at Addie McEvers. Despite the final result, she posted six points. McEvers is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last six games she's played.

Leading Green Mountain to victory were Kantyn Pearson and Ella Cockrum. Pearson went 7 of 15 en route to 24 points and five steals, while Cockrum went 7 for 9 on her way to 18 points and five steals. That's the most steals Pearson has posted since back in February of 2024. Another player making a difference was Addie Evans, who earned six points along with six rebounds and three steals.

Evergreen's defeat was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 7-11. As for Green Mountain, the victory was the 16th in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 17-2.

Evergreen is taking a road trip to square off against Standley Lake at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Standley Lake is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 55.9 points per game this season. As for Green Mountain, they will host Littleton at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Green Mountain also hasn't been messing around on offense: they've averaged 54.1 points per game.
