MaxPreps 2014 California Small Schools All-State Baseball Team

Tyler Schimpf of Capital Christian led his team to a Sac-Joaquin Section Division V championship and a week later was selected by the Oakland Athletics in the Major League Baseball Draft.

Schimpf threw a three-hit shutout in a 6-0 win over Lindhurst in the section final, striking out 16 and walking none. He also went 2-for-3 at the plate with a pair of doubles in the win. He was chosen by the A's with the 942nd overall pick. As a result, Schimpf has been chosen as the MaxPreps California Small Schools Baseball Player of the Year.

Schimpf finished the year with an 8-1 record, striking out 100 batters in 56.1 innings pitched. He also batted .371 with 16 doubles and four home runs.

Don Watkins of Minarets is the MaxPreps California Small Schools Coach of the Year. Watkins took a school that is only in its fourth year of existence and led it to a 28-5 record and a Central Section Division VI championship.

The small schools team consists of players who competed on teams that participated in the smallest enrollment divisions in the state.
