League recap: Rock Canyon propelled to win by explosive offense

Rock Canyon led 5A Pioneer in scoring this week after putting up 41 points on Palmer. Ryan Hommel threw for 114 yards and two touchdowns and ran for 32 yards in the win.

Brendan McGowan made the biggest impact on defense this week as Castle View fell to Fountain-Fort Carson. The 6-foot-3 senior grabbed two sacks.

Eric Williams was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 141 yards on 20 carries as the Jaguars defeated Heritage. Teammate John Riley added to the ground attack by rushing for 39 yards.

Cameron Hacker put up the best numbers through the air as the Trojans beat the Sabercats. He finished with nine completions for 154 yards and three touchdowns. Hacker's favorite target this week was Anthony Isom, who caught five passes for 64 yards.

Orgill was the best wideout in the league this week as the Titans topped the Eagles. Orgill racked up five receptions for 97 yards. Nicholas Evdos helped Legend's passing attack out by catching three balls for 32 yards.

Thanks to the talents of Hommel and Williams Rock Canyon has been able to do all sorts of things on offense. Hommel leads the league in passing with 1176 yards, while Williams has rushed for 1065 yards this season. Heritage's Aaron Cook leads the league in receiving yards with 304 on 18 catches.

Fountain-Fort Carson's Anthony Davis is a mere 23 yards away from breaking the 1,000-rushing-yards mark for the season. Davis has rushed for 977 yards on 114 carries so far this year.

A big matchup in 5A Pioneer this week will be when Tom Lynch's team takes on Legend. The Jaguars are currently in second, while Rob Doyle's team is in third.

The Titans made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 4,739 from 5,538. They were able to move up in the ranks after a 27-17 victory over the Eagles last week.
