Basketball Game Preview: South Pointe Stallions vs. Dreher Blue Devils

The South Pointe Stallions will challenge the Dreher Blue Devils at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (South Pointe has 16 straight victories, Dreher has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the court.

South Pointe is headed into the matchup after thoroughly thrashing Lancaster: they outscored them in every quarter. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that South Pointe blew Lancaster out of the water with a 68-34 final score. The Stallions have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won eight games by 34 points or more this season.

South Pointe's success was spearheaded by the efforts of JaNyia Cunningham, who dropped a double-double on 23 points and 11 rebounds, and Kaleigh Lucas, who went 7 for 14 on her way to 16 points and six steals. Lucas' evening made it three games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. Serenity Woods was another key player, putting up 16 points.

South Pointe smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in nine consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Dreher took a blow against A.C. Flora on Tuesday, falling 69-19.

South Pointe pushed their record up to 16-0 with the win, which was their 18th straight at home dating back to last season. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 39.6 points. As for Dreher, they now have a losing record at 6-7.

South Pointe strolled past Dreher when the teams last played back in February of 2022 by a score of 79-60. Does South Pointe have another victory up their sleeve, or will Dreher turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
