Softball Recap: Cardinal Newman Cardinals vs. San Marin Mustangs
Cardinal Newman extended their losing streak to three on Thursday, dropping them down to 2-6. They came up short against the San Marin Mustangs, falling 10-2. The Cardinals were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Mustangs apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2025.
Cardinal Newman saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Nicole DiMarco, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base.
As for San Marin, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 2-2. With that victory, they brought their scoring average up to 7 runs per game.
On San Marin's side, Taylor Testa was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off eight hits. That's the most strikeouts Testa has posted since back in March of 2025. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with one triple and one RBI.
In other batting news, Arianna Mendoze was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one double, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Alina Rempe, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.
Looking ahead, Cardinal Newman will face off against Ukiah at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for San Marin, they have already played their next contest, a 10-4 win against Alhambra on the 21st.
