Softball Recap: Garey Has No Trouble Against Azusa

Garey came out on top against Azusa on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive 12-run fourth inning. The Vikings put the hurt on the Aztecs with a sharp 15-5 victory. With that win, the Vikings brought their scoring average up to 6.2 runs per game.

Miley Diaz made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching five innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits. Diaz was also big at the plate, getting on base in two of her four plate appearances with two runs. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Valerie Jimenez was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with four RBI, one run, and one double. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Noelli Szabo was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs, two RBI, and one double.

Garey always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .667. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

The victory made it two in a row for Garey and bumps their season record up to 8-12. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 8 runs in those games. As for Azusa, they dropped their record down to 5-9 with the loss, which was their fifth straight on the road.

Coincidentally, Garey and Azusa will both be playing Baldwin Park the next time they take the field. The Vikings will head out to face the Braves at 3:30 p.m. on Monday, while the Aztecs will head out to face them at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
