Flag Football Recap: Downers Grove South Comes Up Short

After flying high against Leyden on Thursday, Downers Grove South came back down to earth. The Mustangs took a 20-14 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Joliet West Tigers on Saturday. While losing is never fun, the Mustangs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois flag football rankings (they are ranked 122nd, while the Tigers are ranked 33rd).

Londyn Clemons continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Joliet West, rushing for 139 yards and one TD on only eight carries. Clemons got the majority of those rushing yards when he took off on a run that went for an incredible 86 yards. Maya Zanzola was another key player, rushing for 20 yards and one touchdown.

Downers Grove South's loss dropped their record down to 2-5. As for Joliet West, the win (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 10-3.

Downers Grove South didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 24-13 victory against Plainfield South on the 20th. As for Joliet West, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, a 14-12 win against Naperville North on the 20th.
