Baseball Recap: Upper Lake Cougars vs. St. Helena Saints
Upper Lake extended their losing streak to 15 on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 3-17 in the process. They lost 11-0 to the St. Helena Saints. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Saints this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 11-1 back in April.
As for St. Helena, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 18-6. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight matchups by six runs or more this season.
For St. Helena's part, Cole Joy was a major factor no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Joy has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in 16 consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in RBI (two).
In other batting news, Charlie Blaum was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Sam Beck, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
