TRACY, Calif. -
Mason Ward ran for two touchdowns and
Holden Butler added two as well as
Elliot Christian (Lodi, Calif.) upset
Millennium (Tracy, Calif.) 30-14 on Saturday.
After taking the lead on a
Kade Piazza touchdown run in the first quarter, the Eagles were up 24-6 at the half.
Elliot Christian expanded its lead to 20 points entering the fourth quarter. EC's lone score in the quarter came on a Ward touchdown run.
The result came as a big surprise as the Falcons came in ranked No. 970 in the MaxPreps Freeman Rankings for California, while the Lodi school was ranked No. 1027.
The Eagles has struggled this season, allowing 34.4 points per game. But Elliot Christian tightened up and held Millennium below its season average of 19.4 points per game.
When the two teams played each other last season, EC came away with a 49-8 victory.
The victory was a step in the right direction for the Lodi school, which was coming off a 48-42 defeat at the hands of Stone Ridge Christian in its previous game. The victory ended Elliot Christian's two-game losing streak.
Millennium (4-4) will play a Central California Athletic Alliance game against Sierra Ridge/Rite of Passage next week, while Elliot Christian (3-5) will take on Big Valley Christian also in a Central California Athletic Alliance game.
