Basketball Recap: St. Bede Extends Winning Streak to Five

St. Bede waltzed into their match on Monday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They strolled past the Putnam County Panthers with points to spare, taking the game 45-30. Given the Bruins' advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 183rd, while the Panthers are ranked 502nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

St. Bede's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Savannah Bray led the charge by going 7 for 11 en route to 14 points along with eight boards and three steals. Bray is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last four games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Ashlyn Ehm, who went 5 of 8 on her way to 11 points and three steals.

St. Bede is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a nice bump to their 16-9 record this season. As for Putnam County, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-20.

St. Bede wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 46-45 loss against Newman Central Catholic on the 28th. As for Putnam County, they are taking a road trip to take on Dwight at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
