Baseball Recap: Chaparral Victorious

Chaparral lost to New Mexico Military Institute on Tuesday, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Tuesday. The Chaparral Lobos narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the New Mexico Military Institute Colts 3-1.

Michael Molina spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run allowed (which was unearned) on two hits and racked up 14 Ks. Those 14 strikeouts gave him a new career-high.

On the hitting side, Israel Nieto was excellent, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. The team also got some help courtesy of Justin Castillo, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Chaparral now has a winning record of 2-1. As for New Mexico Military Institute, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-1.

Coming up, Chaparral will square off against Lovington at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for New Mexico Military Institute, it'll be an old-fashioned rodeo when the Colts face off against the Mustangs at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
