Softball Game Preview: Freedom Irish vs. Seymour Thunder

The Freedom Irish will venture away from home to take on the Seymour Thunder at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Freedom is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.2 runs per game this season.

On Monday, Freedom didn't have quite enough to beat Bay Port and fell 4-2. The Irish have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Breanna Dallmann was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.

Meanwhile, Seymour had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 12.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it five on Thursday. Everything went their way against the Bears as they made off with a 6-0 win. Give the Thunder's pitching crew some credit: that's the team's fourth straight shutout.

The result came thanks to Kendra Rettler's shutout, as she gave up just three hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 18 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Adde Smith was incredible, firing off two home runs while going 2-for-4. That's the most home runs she has posted since back in April of 2025. The team also got some help courtesy of Aryah Krahn, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and two runs.

Freedom's defeat dropped their record down to 12-12. As for Seymour, their victory bumped their record up to 19-3.

Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Tuesday. Freedom hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.7 home runs per game. However, it's not like Seymour struggles in that department as they've been averaging 1 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.

Freedom was able to grind out a solid win over Seymour in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, winning 4-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Irish since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
