Preview: Pomeroy Pirates vs. Tekoa-Rosalia Timberwolves
The Pomeroy Pirates will be playing at home against the Tekoa-Rosalia Timberwolves at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Pomeroy will be looking to keep their seven-game home win streak (dating back to last season) alive.
Last Tuesday, Pomeroy was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 49-43 to Oakesdale. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Pomeroy has scored all season.
Despite the loss, Pomeroy had strong showings from Jett Slusser, who scored 16 points along with seven rebounds and three steals, and Oliver Severs, who scored 13 points along with eight rebounds and two steals. Slusser has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Trace Roberts, who scored six points along with six rebounds.
Meanwhile, Tekoa-Rosalia came up short against Garfield-Palouse on Saturday and fell 59-48.
Tekoa-Rosalia's defeat came about despite a quality game from Isaac Bone, who scored 33 points along with five steals and three blocks. That was a full 68.8% of Tekoa-Rosalia's points, marking the 15th time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Ziyon Marsh was another key contributor, scoring five points along with nine rebounds and two blocks.
Pomeroy's loss ended a six-game streak of away wins and brought them to 11-2. As for Tekoa-Rosalia, they now have a losing record at 7-8.
Everything came up roses for Pomeroy against Tekoa-Rosalia in their previous meeting two weeks ago as the team secured a 76-46 victory. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Bone, who scored 23 points along with five rebounds and five steals.
