Basketball Recap: Providence Comes Up Short

Providence was the 48-47 winner over Charlotte Catholic when they last played one another back in January, but their luck changed this time around. The Providence Panthers lost 71-51 to the Charlotte Catholic Cougars on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, the Panthers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 419th, while the Cougars are ranked 13th).

Charlotte Catholic was led to victory by Jack Siegel and Chris Eagan. Siegel went 6 of 8 on his way to 19 points and six rebounds, while Eagan went 8 of 19 on his way to 17 points and seven rebounds. Siegel is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 18 or more in the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of King Rhodes, who posted ten points.

This is the second loss in a row for Providence and nudges their season record down to 1-7. As for Charlotte Catholic, the win keeps them at an undefeated 9-0.

Providence will head out to face off against Butler at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Charlotte Catholic, they will welcome Independence at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (Charlotte Catholic has won five straight at home dating back to last season, while Independence won four straight on the road), something that'll have to change.
