Preview: Chisholm Longhorns vs. Perry Maroons
The Chisholm Longhorns will head out on the road to face off against the Perry Maroons at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the pair will really light up the scoreboard.
Chisholm entered their tilt with Blackwell with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. Chisholm claimed a resounding 45-15 victory over Blackwell on the road. Given Chisholm's advantage in MaxPreps' Oklahoma football rankings (they are ranked 99th, while Blackwell is ranked 229th), the result on Friday wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meanwhile, Perry put the finishing touches on their third blowout victory of the season on Friday. They put the hurt on Newkirk with a sharp 33-7 win. The win was just what Perry needed coming off of a 64-6 loss in their prior game.
Perry's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jaxson Cunningham led the charge by throwing for 277 yards and four touchdowns. The team also got some help courtesy of Andrew Kukuk, who gained 168 total yards and two touchdowns.
Their wins bumped Chisholm to 6-2 and Perry to 4-4.
Chisholm came up short against Perry in their previous meeting back in October of 2022, falling 35-22. Can Chisholm avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
