Basketball Game Preview: Somerset Prep vs. Doral Academy Firebirds

Somerset Prep will take on the Doral Academy Firebirds in a holiday battle at at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.

Last Tuesday, Somerset Prep ended up a good deal behind King's Academy and lost 63-45. While losing is never fun, Somerset Prep can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 557th, while King's Academy is ranked 140th).

Meanwhile, Doral Academy entered their tilt with Mater Biscayne Academy on Wednesday with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. They blew past the Wildcats 71-21. The Firebirds have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won four contests by 24 points or more this season.

Doral Academy pushed their record up to 5-2 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.6 points per game. As for Somerset Prep, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-6.

Things could have been worse for Somerset Prep, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 56-39 loss to Doral Academy in their previous matchup back in December of 2022. Thankfully for Somerset Prep, Gabe Hernandez (who went 11 for 21 on his way to 27 points) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
